Shopping with Amazon Alexa

Description
At Amazon we are always looking for ways to make shopping easier for our customers through Alexa. This is especially true when thinking about ways to make shopping more accessible for customers with disabilities. Our voice technology is changing how people shop for everyday products, including grocery items, consumables and books. For example, customers can simply ask Alexa to add items to their shopping list, suggest products to buy, or even restock grocery items with Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market. We strive for Alexa to understand and fulfill the needs of all shoppers regardless of language, background, abilities or economic means. In this session we will give an overview and demonstrate new Alexa functionalities that customers can use to ensure they never run out of household essentials, ask product questions, order groceries and other everyday items, and collaborate with friends or family members. This is a non-technical talk designed to appeal to a broad audience. We will discuss both in-store shopping experiences as well as shopping from home. For customers who are blind or low-vision, or have motor impairments, Alexa’s voice-centric modality provides immediate benefits. You can add and remove products in your cart, select your preferred delivery options, and check out with just your voice or on Amazon.com whenever convenient for you. When in a store like Whole Foods Market, you can use the Alexa app or Alexa in the Amazon app to ask for item location and availability – “Alexa, what aisle has canned stewed tomatoes?”, “are organic bananas in stock?”, or “where is the bathroom?”. This makes it even easier to find the information you need, and save time on trips to the store. This presentation will include a discussion of shopping through Echo devices, the Alexa App, and the Amazon App.
