Matching a Low Vision User with Proper Video Magnifier

Description
Key elements: • Review video magnifier features • Evaluate tasks a low vision user is having trouble accomplishing where • Match need-to-do with can-do Today, we use computers daily and do so much electronically. People with low vision access computers with assistive technology software. Still, there are times when one must use paper and look at the world around them, view a whiteboard or the teacher’s face. That’s where the video magnifier comes in! Kimberly has a long history of evaluating and teaching individuals who are low vision and providing them with the proper assistive technology. For the last three years, she has turned her full attention to video magnifiers; she has a deep understanding of the hardware and software involved. This presentation will provide an overview of five LVI video magnifiers, and touch on our reading machine. During the presentation, differences and specialties of each magnifier will be highlighted. Throughout the presentation it will explain how each hardware feature can be matched with a person’s unique needs (functionality). These needs may relate to the person’s visual impairment or to logistics. For instance, in the case of a student, will they need to move the video magnifier from room to room during the day? Finally, it will all be tied together by giving attendees a chart that outlines Video Magnifier features, User functionality, and LVI product matches.
