Retinal Projection Digital Camera for Better Accessibility
- Date & Time
Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 11:20 AM PST
We will explain the technology behind the devices we have developed and present a documentary featuring low-vision patients and how their lives have been changed by these devices.
RETISSA NEOVIEWER is an accessory viewfinder for a digital camera that features retinal projection technology, which we at QDLaser have been developing for more than a decade. When looking through the camera's viewfinder, a weak laser beam passes through the pupil and projects images that are picked up by the camera directly onto the retina. The projected image is always focus-free, independent of the focusing ability of the eyes. The projected image is clear even in the peripheral area of the retina, which is better than natural vision. Moreover, the optical zooming function of the attached digital camera can provide great magnification to the users.
By using this device, some people with low vision can dramatically improve their quality of life, since they can watch things better with retinal projection than with their own impaired vision. We will introduce several stories named “With My Eyes” in the session.
