Product Accessibility Review Options for any Organization

Date & Time
Friday, March 17, 2023 - 4:20 PM PST
Grand GH
Every organization should be concerned about the accessibility of digital products used by its members. Institutions of higher education provide students with digital products. Employers of all types, including institutions of higher education, require employees to use digital products to do their jobs. But when should an organization consider the accessibility of digital products? And how can an organization review the accessibility of digital products? Then, if a digital product is not accessible, what can an organization do if it decides to use the digital product? This session will present options any organization may use to review the accessibility of digital products. An organization may review products at any point in the relationship with the product, from the procurement process through use of the product. The options will be presented as a spectrum of digital product reviews using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level A and AA and accessibility conformance documentation from product vendors (a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template or Accessibility Conformance Report). An organization may implement an option on the spectrum based on its available resources or adopt an option as part of the organization’s inclusion strategy. The session will include descriptions of personnel, processes, and procedures related to each option. The session will also include examples of resources needed to implement each option on the spectrum.
