37th Annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference Has Concluded
A Technology Journey: The Story of Codi's Life
- Description
-
Codi's a typical, not so typical teenager. She is a vibrant and determined fifteen year old with Cerebral Palsy. Codi uses many forms of assistive technology to increase her self- sufficiency. The attendees will journey with us to learn about various forms of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) we've incorporated in our lives over the past 15 years.
Codi was a full-term baby who experienced a lack of oxygen at birth, later resulting in a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. Codi is considered non-verbal, uses a wheelchair for mobility and a gastrostomy tube for nutrition. Codi spent 41 days in the NICU in Anchorage, AK. She started using picture board communication devices at one year old. She progressed to a few different dedicated communication devices. Codi uses her power wheelchair, iPad and classroom technology to be a successful student. Codi is an avid "coder". She uses smart devices to navigate her home and community. Her AAC allows her to communicate with her peers.
