Various disability legislation exists to ensure employees with disabilities have equal access to everything from the hiring process, use of all internal systems and communication within an enterprise, requests for accommodation, training, and Helpdesk support. There have also been significant advances in Assistive Technology (AT) for persons with disabilities for greater access to IT systems, standards around making complex websites accessible, and tools for monitoring the accessibility of websites and remediating documents. However, providing seamless support to employees with a disability in all these areas, what iYellow Access calls the “last mile of accessibility,” can be daunting for enterprises. Such support requires extensive planning, support from many individuals and internal teams, and continual monitoring. Based on its decades-long experience working in enterprise environments with Employees with Disabilities, management, and Helpdesk support, iYellow Access created this session to help enterprises understand the expertise and processes they need to support their employees with disabilities fully.
While legislation is evident around the need for equal access for employees with disabilities to all forms of communication, training, and IT support, the implementation of this support is not easy to realize in the enterprise. Many internal teams need to be involved, from management, supervisors, IT support, and AT Specialists. In this session, iYellow Access’ Director of Training, Jeff Ermold, and Harris Rosensweig, Director of Accessibility, will be addressing best practices in supporting employees with existing disabilities and those who obtain disabilities while on the job who need or use AT.
