Black Saga & Regulation: Primer for Black Empowerment: Underrepresented populations have an extensive and dense layer of epic achievements within the construction and ideological production of the United States. Oral histories of the past benefit offspring of enslaved Africans in ways that help them understand, cope, and develop an awareness of our movement forward. That mustard seed of faith from the ancestors have provided the catalyst for Black empowerment through our struggle. Join us as we display student research and the Black Aesthetic, which will emphasize racial pride, an appreciation of African heritage, and a commitment to produce works that reflect the culture and experiences of black people. Muslim China: Perils and Prospects of the New Silk Road

Presented by Dr. Dru Gladney, Professor of Anthropology, Pomona College. This talk examines China’s important move West under President Xi Jinping’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative. In the context of building a “New Silk Road”, the talk examines China’s growing connections with the Middle East and the increasing importance of Muslim minorities in China. How will China’s own 21 million Muslims be affected by these changing relationships? This talk also examines the role of global social media and Western scholarship

Sponsored by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Cinema and Television Arts, and UNAM Los Angeles.
