Outstanding Faculty of the Year

Professor George GansThe students of M.S. in Taxation awarded Professor George Gans with the Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award during the graduation ceremony at California State University, Northridge’s Valley Performing Art Center.

“It was an honor to receive this award,” said Gans. “There are some excellent professors in this program, so it’s definitely flattering. At the end of the day I just hope the students learned from the class”.

Gans teaches Corporate Taxation and Accounting Methods and Periods. His first year with the program, Gans says his favorite part of teaching is interacting with students and sharing his knowledge and experience in the profession.

“I think personal interaction helps the students in the classroom and in their career,” said Gans. “It is also very humbling to receive this award in my first year teaching in this program. I enjoyed it very much.”

In addition to teaching, Gans serves as a Business Tax Partner in Deloitte’s West region. He is also a member of the national Federal Accounting Methods and Periods group for Deloitte. Throughout his career, Gans has served various tax clients including life science public and private companies, hospitality, electric utility and manufacturing industries. Gans says he credits his teaching methods to his professional background, where he conveys knowledge to his team and to his clients on a daily basis.

“Teaching can be challenging and time consuming, but I like to share my experiences with my students and to see how those experiences can benefit them in their careers. I really enjoy teaching and I hope that the students can tell I enjoy being there, too,” said Gans.
