Rafi Efrat, J.D., J.S.M,  J.S.D.

Director, MPAcc Program, Bookstein Chair in Taxation, Professor, Department of Accounting and Information Systems

After becoming a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Illinois in 1990, Dr. Efrat obtained his law degree from the University of Southern California. He practiced law for five years, including a period of time at EY tax practice. Dr. Efrat then became a Teaching Fellow at Stanford Law School, where he taught legal research and writing. He subsequently obtained a master's in law and a doctor of science of law degree from Stanford Law School. Dr. Efrat is the recipient of the university's Preeminent Scholarly Publication Award in 2004, Extraordinary Service Award in 2008, the Professor of the Year Award in the Accounting Program in 2009, the Community Engagement Visionary Award in 2010, the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2013, the University Research Fellow in 2013, the Outstanding Educator Award by the California Society of CPAs in 2014, co-recipient of the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award in the MS in Taxation Program in 2015, and the Outstanding Faculty Award at CSUN in 2015. He joined the faculty of CSUN in 1999. He teaches ACCT 600: Federal Taxation of Individuals and Property Transactions.

Sung Wook Yoon, PhD, CPA (CO)

Dr. Yoon received his Ph.D. and MS in Accounting from the University of Colorado.  His current research interests include financial accounting issues in capital markets, international accounting issues including IFRS, and accounting education. He joined the faculty of CSUN in 2007. He teaches in the MPAcc Program Accounting for Government and Non-Profit Entities, as well as Financial Accounting Reporting III.

 

 

Earl Weiss, M.S., J.D.

Professor Emeritus Weiss joined the CSUN faculty in 1984. He has extensive professional experience as an attorney in higher education and as a CPA in public accounting with what is now the firm EY. At CSUN, Professor Weiss held the positions of Special Assistant to the President for six years as legal and policy advisor, Associate Dean of the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics for three years, and Chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems for six years. Professor Weiss teaches the Accounting Boot Camp.

 

Rob Razani, M.S. Taxation, CPA

Professor Razani has worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent for over 23 years. He currently works as a subject matter expert in the Corporate Distributions and Adjustments Issue Practice Group, where he provides guidance to IRS internal stakeholders on corporate and M&A transactions. His experience with the IRS includes over 14 years as a Senior Team Coordinator in the Large Business and International (LB&I) Division of the IRS, coordinating the tax examination of some of the nation's largest multinational public corporations. Professor Razani has extensive experience conducting trainings within the IRS, as well as teaching CPA review courses. Professor Razani earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Diego State University and his Master of Science in Taxation from California State, Northridge. He teaches Federal Taxation of Entities in the MPAcc Program.

 

Donny Wang, Ph.D.

Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He joined the faculty of CSUN in 2019. He previously taught financial accounting at both the entry and intermediate levels. His research includes accounting and risk disclosures, debt pricing, and derivative usage. He teaches ACCT620A and ACCT620B  in the MPAcc program. 

 

Mahnhee Lee, M.S. in Taxation, CPA

Mahnhee is the Senior Director, Finance at Advatix and Xpdel. He oversees all financial aspects and provides guidance to senior leadership on strategic decisions. He has helped the company rapidly grow in the last two years from being a $10 million to $30 million revenue-generating company.

Mahnhee is a CPA who is the Head of Finance at Advatix and Xpdel. Prior to joining Advatix and Xpdel, he was an audit manager at both EY and BDO, where he haudited numerous companies, both publicly-traded and privately-held companies, ranging in size of up to $1.4 billion in revenues and with total assets of up to $350 billion, that are in the asset management, M&D, entertainment, and technology industries.

Throughout his career in public accounting, he also helped three clients transition to become a publicly-traded company through public stock offerings, as well as implementing SOX controls, and worked on over 10 mergers and acquisitions deals with an enterprise value of up to $3.0 billion. In addition, I was responsible for developing suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures, as well as advising clients on various economic and regulatory risks in their specific industry by identifying financial and non-financial performance measures, formulating and communicating the audit plan, answering complex questions involving GAAP and GAAS, and composing technical memos on such topics.

 

Manuela Dantas, Ph.D.

Manuela Dantas is an assistant professor of accounting, teaching the Introduction to Accounting courses and Advanced Accounting at the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. Professor Dantas completed her Ph.D. in Management with a concentration in Accounting from Cornell University in 2019.

Her research interests revolve around financial accounting, corporate social responsibility, banking, and socially responsible investment. Prior to her graduate studies, Professor Dantas had a brief career in the financial sector. She holds a bachelor´s degree in accounting from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, a Master of Business Administration degree from Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV), Brazil. Outside of academia, Professor Dantas enjoys spending time running ultramarathons and biking, and is an avid wine enthusiast.

Babken Basmadzhyan, M.S. Taxation, CPA

Babken Basmadzhyan is a professor of accounting in Los Angeles Pierce College and California State University Northridge.  He is also a practitioner CPA and is the managing director of Proactive Tax and Business Management, where he oversees accounting and taxation matters of over 700 clients.  He has earned his Bachelor of Accountancy and Masters of Science in Taxation degrees from CSUN.  His favorite pastimes include reading, learning foreign languages and culinary arts.
