He also specializes in financial issues relating to children, divorce and the development of strategies to pass family wealth from one generation to the next—a method he has developed and has registered a trademark for called, “Therapeutic Accounting®.”

Mr. Bookstein has been a strong supporter of CSUN and the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for The University Corporation, California State University, Northridge, Foundation Board, the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics Advisory Board, the Department of Accounting & Information Systems' Advisory Board and the M.S. in Taxation Advisory Board.  In 2009 he received the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award from the California State University, Northridge Alumni Association.  In 2016 he was conferred an honorary doctorate from CSUN.

In 2005, Harvey and his wife, Harriet, made a donation for the creation of the Bookstein Chair in Taxation and the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation at CSUN. Their donation represents one of CSUN’s largest gifts from an alumnus and represents the first-ever endowed chair in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. The Bookstein Institute has been instrumental in launching the Master of Science in Taxation program, the Tax Development Journal, the Bookstein Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and the Bookstein Community Outreach Tax Clinic.  In 2016, Harvey and Harriet Bookstein announced their intention to donate $750,000 for the creation of an endowment to support in perpetuity the CSUN VITA Clinic.
