Professor Kurt Saunders Publishes Book on the Law of Ideas

Professor Kurt Saunders, Chair of the Business Law Department, has published his third book, entitled Intellectual Property and the Law of Ideas (Taylor & Francis 2021).  The book explores and analyzes the scope of protection available to business and entertainment ideas under the law of intellectual property, contract, and property law, and provides guidance to idea originators and recipients of idea submissions.  About the book, Professor Saunders stated: “If the originator of a potentially useful business or entertainment idea does not have the financial resources to exploit it, he or she may submit it unsolicited to another, with the expectation of receiving compensation if the idea is used.  Although an extensive body of intellectual property law exists to protect the rights of inventors, authors, and businesses that own valuable brands or confidential proprietary information, undeveloped but valuable ideas receive little or no intellectual property law protection.  In these cases, the law of ideas, which is largely based on contract and property law, may offer a source of protection and a remedy for idea theft.”
