Associated Students is the primary advocate for students at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). We, as individual campus leaders, write to you today in opposition to your decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
As you are aware, DACA allows immigrants who were brought into the United States of America by their parents or relatives as young children to live life openly in the only country they’ve ever known as home. Some 800,000 individuals have taken advantage of this program and a large number of those individuals are enrolled in classes here at CSUN.
In Associated Students, we know that regardless of their immigration status, students enrolled in DACA share the same values of dedication, hard work, and community service with all of their fellow Matadors. Furthermore, we acknowledge all the amazing things they bring to student life in every department across campus as student leaders. We know that without these dedicated individuals our campus would not be the same.
In conclusion, we ask that you treat these inspiring individuals with compassion by maintaining DACA. Their dedication to improving not only themselves but also their communities and the country they call home exemplifies what it truly means to be American.
