Q: What are the qualifications for AS President?
A: To be able to run for AS Presidency the student will have to have a minimum 2.5 GPA (3.0 GPA for graduates) and 60 units of completed college work before entering into office. The student must also have completed 6 units undergrad or 3 units grad units at CSUN.
Q: What are the qualifications for Vice President?
A: If a student wants to run and become the upcoming Vice President, they will have to have a minimum 2.5 GPA (3.0 GPA for graduates) and completed 45 college units before taking office.
Q: What are the qualifications for AS senate?
A: The qualification will depend on which Senate position the student will be running for in the elections.
- Graduate Division Senator: Cumulative 3.0 GPA, must have a baccalaureate degree, be enrolled in 6 graduate units
- Lower Division Senator: Minimum 2.5 GPA, completed the enrollment requirements for a Lower Division student and the requirements are stated in the University Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog
- Upper Division Senator: Minimum 2.5 GPA, a student must have completed the enrollment requirements for an Upper Division student as defined in the current University Undergraduate & Graduate Catalog, under the section referred to as Enrollment Regulations.
- Academic College Senator: Minimum 2.5 GPA, a student must have completed at least twenty-four (24) units of college work before taking office and shall be certified as a specific major in the academic College, having successfully completed at least nine (9) units within that College, except for the College of Education, prior to taking office. The Senator of the College of Education shall have been admitted to that school previously
Q: What are Associated Students and what do they do for CSUN students?
A: “The Associated Students is the primary advocate for students at California State University, Northridge and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning-focused campus environment.” - Associated Students CSU Northridge Constitution
Q: How can I join AS leadership cabinet positions?
A: AS Leadership Cabinet is done on an appointed basis, NOT by-elections. You can apply for open positions at https://www.csun.edu/as/student-government/open-positions
Q: How does the voting system work for the AS elections?
A: The voting system used in the AS Elections is ranked-choice voting. A majority (50% +1) of the votes cast for the A.S. President/Vice President, or any referenda, recall, special or initiative legislation, or constitutional amendment are required to win the election.
Q: What is the Club Competition?
A: The Club Competition is where voters have the opportunity to give $1 to the club of their choice at the end of their AS ballot. Keep in mind that these funds are coming out of AS.
Q: How can my club join the club competition?
A: If your club is registered into the Matasync, you are automatically entered and will be on the ballot. Please check that the Matasync is updated. If you are looking to get added on the ballot but are not added onto Matasync yet, please contact chairofelections@csunas.org.
Q: Will there be a debate this election year?
A: Yes. We will be holding a debate in person on Tuesday, March 28 ,2023 at 4:00PM-5:00PM at the Northridge Center. More information about the debate will be coming soon!
Q: What is a Slate?
A: A Slate is a party you can run under when running for Elections. You will be with other candidates such as the President, VP, and Senators whom you chose to make a party with. Similar to the National Elections, you can identify with a party or as an Independent when running.
Q: How will the election continue with the COVID?
A: We are continuing to put the safety of students first. Thankfully voting is all done online via your email, but we will be having voting stations with street team members making sure that safety precautions is being done.
Q: I want to help facilitate/plan elections! How can I get involved?
A: You can join our Elections Committee and be a part of the planning process in Elections or apply to be a part of the street team. The committee meets TBD. Please do note that if you are part of the elections committee you CANNOT run for elected positions.
Q: How long is the term for elected positions?
A: Elected positions have a 1-year term. You may run again once elections are held annually.
