Apply for an Alumni Scholarship

Each year we award 15 scholarships at $2,000 each recipient, in three categories.

First Generation

To encourage and support first-generation families in their pursuit of higher education, eight (8) $2,000 First Generation Scholarships are awarded each year.

  • First in your immediate family to attend a 4-year college or university
  • Strong consideration of financial need. (Must file a FASFA)
  • Immediate family is defined as parents and siblings

Legacy Scholarship

In the spirit of tradition and loyalty, five (5) $2,000 Legacy Scholarships are awarded each year to the children or grandchildren of CSUN alumni. One of these scholarships is named in honor of Dorothea “Granny” Heitz and two of these scholarships are awarded in honor of Dean Edmund Peckham.

  • The child or grandchild of a CSUN/SFVSC alumni
  • International students are not eligible for this scholarship

Parent Criteria

  • Parent must become an active, dues-paying member of the Alumni Association when a scholarship is awarded
  • The parent must have a confirmed degree or credential from CSUN/SFVSC
  • Grandparents who have attended CSUN may also qualify the student as a legacy even if the “parent” did not attend.
  • The “parent” is defined as birth parent, step-parent or legal guardian.

Graduate

The goal of the Graduate Student Scholarship is to recognize and assist alumni who are loyal to the university and choose to continue their education at CSUN beyond the undergraduate level. One $2,000 scholarship is awarded.

Selection Process

The Alumni Association posts all available scholarship opportunities through the CSUN Financial Aid and Scholarships Office who collects, reviews and verifies data using information available at the stated deadline. Student reported eligibility information is confirmed by records available on the university computer system. Information that cannot be confirmed using computer records will not be used in selection. The Alumni Association cannot be responsible for errors on the system and subsequent late changes. Admissions and grade changes made after the deadline are not considered in the application or award process.

After an application has been reviewed as meeting the basic eligibility requirements, it's available to the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee for selection and scoring according to the criteria and requirements specified for each scholarship. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee an award.

Due to the large number of applicants, students will not be individually contacted by the Alumni Association during the selection process. Final recipients will be notified by the CSUN Financial Aid and Scholarship Office via their myNorthridge Portal.  However, students may confirm receipt of an application by the alumni selection committee by emailing your name and submission category to alumni@csun.edu anytime after the posted submission deadline.

If selected, students will be notified by the university and funds will be dispersed by the CSUN Financial Aid and Scholarship Office via your myNorthridge portal. The names of the final scholarship recipients will also be posted on the Alumni Association or chapter website.
