Resources for Chapter Volunteers

Thank you for volunteering to help us to cultivate relationships and expand our efforts in support of the university, alumni and current students. Managing a volunteer-based alumni chapter can be a rewarding experience. We understand that free time for volunteer service is often limited and we thank you for your loyalty and support!

As volunteers, we want to provide you with the tools you'll need to be an effective leader. We know that you want the best for your chapter.  You want it to be successful, to plan great events and you want your team to be dynamic and motivated. Refer to the resource links compiled below for successful chapter administration:

Event Planning

Parking Services: Parking can be arranged on campus and either paid for by the individual participant or hosted by the chapter. The cost is the same, $6 per vehicle. Individuals can either pay on site at one of the parking booths or permit dispensers located around campus or they can print a pass from their home computer to display in their window when they arrive.

Wireless Guest Access: Access to the CSUN wireless network is restricted to current CSUN faculty, staff and students. One-day guest access can be arranged for meetings and events. If the event is held M-F during regular business hours, the guest code can be obtained the morning of the meeting. Contact a staff member in the Office of Alumni Relations to obtain the daily guest code from the CSUN help desk. If the meeting is held on a weekend, a request to set up a guest account needs to be submitted to the Office of Alumni Relations a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the meeting date.

You can host a chapter board or committee meetings on campus or via conference call.

Rosters and Lists: The Alumni Office keeps email rosters and member lists for each chapter.  We are happy to send out a communication to that list on your behalf.

Conference Calls: The Alumni Association has a conference call service available for use by volunteers to assist in communicating with your board members. Attach a portable speaker to any smart phone, place it in the middle of the conference table and turn any meeting into a virtual meeting for those who want to participate but live too far from CSUN to drive in. If you don't have a portable speaker, we can lend you ours.
