Hollywood Foreign Press Association Hands Out Nearly $2.4 Million in Grants

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presents the annual Golden Globe Awards, handed out nearly $2.4 million in grants at its annual Grants Banquet, which was held tonight at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. At the event, hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis, celebrities stepped forward to announce a series of donations to a range of non-profit, entertainment-related organizations, foundations and scholarship programs. -- The Hollywood Reporter

HFPA Grants Write a Better Future for Students

One school that has benefited from HFPA’s charitable efforts is Cal State Northridge. Since 1998, CSUN has received over $900,000 in grants to assist with students’ senior film projects and fellowship funding. Just last year, CSUN’s department of cinema and television Arts received an unprecedented $2 million grant with a portion going toward the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. Sustainable Development Update - August 2016

Launching a green cleaning program, developing an agreement that would quadruple solar generation on campus, expanding drought-tolerant landscaping, and offering bicycle-education workshops are among the priorities for 2016-17 outlined in California State University, Northridge’s annual Sustainability Plan. The plan, which was developed by the Institute for Sustainability, establishes the priorities for 2016-17 and highlights last year’s accomplishments. CSUN now diverts up to 60 percent of its waste from landfills, exceeding the state-mandated diversion rate of 50 percent. Youngest Mouseketeer, Karen Pendleton, turns 70

She was out of show business at age 12 and in public school. Pendleton would go on to study sociology at California State University, Northridge and eventually started working as a high school counselor including a stint at Hoover High School in Fresno. -- The Fresno Bee

Local residents recognized for accomplishments

John Allan Daly, raised in Oxnard and a graduate of Channel Islands High School, Oxnard College and CSU Northridge, was promoted to captain by SkyWest Airlines. Daly was promoted officially several months ago. He received his flight training first at CP Aviation at the Santa Paula Airport and later from Channel Islands Aviation in Camarillo, where he also served as a flight instructor before applying to SkyWest Airlines, where he trained on various jet planes. He is based at the Palm Springs Airport. Daly is the son of Linda Calderon, of Oxnard, and David Daly, of Fresno. -- Ventura County Star
