How Safe Are We?: Reassessing Faculty Safety on College Campuses

California State University, Northridge; UCLA; Umpqua Community College; Northern Arizona University; Virginia Tech; Northern Illinois University; and Florida State University: a small list of universities and colleges where campus shootings have occurred resulting in student and faculty causalities. The Citizens Crime Commission of New York City states “During the first five school years we examined (2001-02 to 2005-06), there were a total of 40 recorded shooting incidents on or near college campuses…The number of shootings increased 23 percent to 49 incidents during the 2006- 07 to 2010-11 school years. Shootings doubled during the next five school years (2011-12 to 2015-16), increasing to 101 incidents-a 153 percent increase.” --Huffington Post

Curiosity piqued, he returned for a test excavation and sent some shell and charcoal for radiocarbon dating. When Des Lauriers’s adviser called with the results, he said, “You should probably sit down.” The material dated from nearly 11,000 to more than 12,000 years ago—only a couple thousand years after the first people reached the Americas. -- College and University

Advancing Physical Therapy Practice through Curriculum Revision: The Malawi Experience

The following resources were used in guiding the curriculum members to participate in a week-long curriculum planning workshop: WCPT Guideline for Physical Therapist Professional Entry Level Education (16); A Normative Model of Physical Therapist Professional Education (18); the curriculum revision which was led by the Consultant from South Africa in 2013; and, course syllabi from the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at California State University, Northridge. As described by the WCPT, the acquisition of broad-based knowledge, critical thinking, self-directed learning and reflection, problem solving, teamwork, and communication is germaine to the practice of physiotherapy (16). -- Frontiers in Public Health

Battling Nazis and white supremacists: A tale of two cities – Charlottesville and La Crescenta

California State University-Northridge hosts a website and archive called “In Our Own Backyard: Resisting Nazi Propaganda in Southern California, 1933-1945” that includes photos of Nazi rallies at Hindenburg Park. One shows members of the Bund erecting a huge swastika in the park. A two-minute clip from the documentary film “Rancho La Canada” includes footage of activities at Hindenburg Park, including the 1939 Nazi rally. --Jewish Journal
