CSUN's Dianne F. Harrison: The Role of Higher Education in the Changing World of Work

The changing world is a universal topic of interest, with particular resonance to higher education. Colleges and universities research change, teach about change, and often impact current and future change. To support students to live in this ever-changing world, those of us who work in higher education strive to provide solid, relevant preparation at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. We proactively and thoughtfully integrate and rely on educational technologies — in curriculum and instruction, labs, assignment design, libraries, support services, and more. But increasingly, employers tell us that our graduates are not adequately prepared for the changing world. Why? Because the "world of work" has also changed, and these changes are not always configured as one would expect. -- EDUCAUSE Review

The 8 Best Niche Museums And Galleries In Los Angeles

Up in the Valley, Cal State-Northridge has a historic and comprehensive set of art galleries. Founded in 1958, it has since showcased over 500 exhibits, featuring artists like James Roble as well as the student artists who study at the university. Right now, the gallery is presenting an exhibition of Judy Baca in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time's LA/LA exhibit. Baca's Great Wall of Los Angeles is a hugely important work of public art, and she's a CSUN alum, so it's only appropriate her work would get its retrospective on campus.m -- LAist

8 Cheap and Free Things to Do in L.A. This Week

CSUN is putting on a special Halloween screening of Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse hosted by senior professor and Hollywood historian John Schultheiss. One of the great accomplishments of the early sound period, Lang's 1933 film imagines the titular arch-criminal — a villain whose spirit remains ambulatory while his body rots in an insane asylum — as a precursor to Hitler. Minister of Nazi Propaganda Joseph Goebbels strongly suggested a re-edit; Lang fled the country and became a successful American studio director instead.
