This year’s hurricanes ‘devastated’ coral reefs, scientists say

Researchers from the University at Buffalo and California State University, Northridge, traveled to the US Virgin Islands in November to evaluate the hurricanes’ aftermath. They found that coral colonies are missing branches and are infected with bacteria. --New York Post

Former California Angels broadcaster and Hall of Famer Dick Enberg passes away

What many people don’t know about Enberg is that his career start at the University of Indiana from 1957-1961 announcing basketball and football Enberg then came to California and was an assistant professor at Cal State Northridge where he also served as the Matadors’ baseball coach from 1961-1965. He then moved on and became the play-by-play announcer for the historic UCLA basketball team coached by another legend in John Wooden from 1966-1977. At the same time he announced for the Los Angeles Rams football team and then in 1969 for the California Angels. --Fansided/Halo Hangout

Dick Enberg, Legendary Sportscaster, Dies at 82

He began broadcasting in college at WSAM in Saginaw, Mich., and started broadcasting professionally in the late 1960s after leaving his job as an assistant professor and baseball coach at California State University Northridge. His first professional broadcasting position was with KTLA, anchoring a nightly sports report and calling UCLA Bruins basketball, and KMPC radio, calling the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Rams. His work at the stations earned him four California Sportscaster of the Year awards. --MSN News

A graduate of Central Michigan University, he earned a master's degree and a doctorate from Indiana University, where he also served as the first-ever football and basketball play-by-play announcer for the Indiana University Sports Network.
