FloTones give back to community one last time

Cassey retired in 2007, and Laura Merz became director and accompanist. Merz, a native of Florence, had just earned a master’s degree in music from California State University at Northridge in Los Angeles. She started her tenure by directing FloTones’ performances at the Florence Holiday Tree Lighting, the Florentine Estates Christmas Dinner, a Peace Harbor Hospital luncheon, three holiday performances at the Three Rivers Casino, and a Florence Food Share benefit performance that brought in 350 pounds of food and $198. -- Siuslaw News - OR

2019 Chamber Gala Awards: Gary Zanardi honored as Town of Porter Citizen of the Year

Gary was born and raised in Napa, California, and has been a Town of Porter resident since 1998. This region reminds him of Napa Valley when he was a child – farms, ranches, a few wineries, good music (Gary had played drums and guitar in a rock band), and the people. He earned a B.A. and M.A. in history from San Jose State University (1974) and Cal State University Sonoma (1976), and studied screenwriting and film production at the graduate level at Cal State Northridge and UCLA. Gary spent 18 years in Los Angeles working as a private investigator. -- Niagara Frontier Publications

Regular Season Final Weekend Will Decide Top-Ten Women’s Water Polo Conference Seeds

#9 UC Davis (17-10; 3-2 Big West) is locked in as the Big West’s #3 seed, and will face Cal-State Northridge (CSUN) next Friday in the first round. Before that, it’s a quick trip Monday to Avery for a match with the #1 Cardinal; the Aggies have already lost once (17-6) to Stanford. What’s key is that they beat the Matadors last weekend by 11-8; for Head Coach Jamie Wright’s team will focus on holding down Tori Wilson, who leads all Big West scorers with 61 goals. -- Swimming World Magazine
