Big West women: Now the hoopla really begins

CSUN (6-8) — The Matadors have one name for you — Channon Fluker. The two-time reigning Big West Player of the Year is one of three players in the nation averaging a double-double (16.2 points, 11.2 rebounds). Tech men set for turnaround in OVC play

The Golden Eagles will be challenged as they look to pick up their first OVC win of the year. TSU is 3-9 on the year but have had to fight their way through a tough schedule that has included losses at Lipscomb, Cal State Northridge, Kentucky, North Carolina A&T and Western Kentucky. --Herald-Citizen

Boise State basketball: Heartstopper time again for Broncos and Aztecs?

This is not your mama’s San Diego State squad, and coach Brian Dutcher has been hearing about it. The Aztecs had to rally from a 19-point deficit on New Year’s afternoon to beat Cal State Northridge 65-60. The Viejas Arena crowd lustily booed its team as it struggled (but did respond when SDSU finally did). San Diego State sports its lowest computer rating in 14 years. Trailing Brown by 30 points at home in the first half—and losing to the Ivy League school by 22 as the Aztecs did last Saturday—will do that to you. But if you’ve been watching Boise State, you know we’re in an “anything can happen” Mountain West season. Not to be a broken record here, but it’ll be all about one of these teams avoiding ugliness Saturday night. --KTVB

Cal Poly to host UC Irvine to start Big West Conference play

Defending Big West Tournament champion CSUN was projected by the coaches for first place, receiving 77 points alongside six first-place votes, outdoing 2018 regular-season champion UC Davis’ 75 points coupled with three first-place ballots. The media poll was switched at the top, however, with 12 first-place votes boosting the Aggies to No. 1, edging out CSUN (eight first places), 171-166. --KSBY
