U301: Cohorts

Join the CSUN community and create your roadmap for success.

Small class sizes allow students to meet other students and build a sense of belonging on campus. Students will learn about the CSUN resources and services available to help them. Through course assignments, activities, and discussions, students will discover their personal strengths and interests, create career tools (e.g., resume, Linked In profile), a semester-by-semester plan for graduation, and begin planning for post-graduation.

Most of the sections are specifically for new transfer students, who can enroll in a general section or one of many cohorted sections. See below for the descriptions of the cohorts offered.

U301 Cohorts

Cohorted sections bring together students within the same major or college, creating a built-in community of peers with shared interests. These sections also introduce students to campus resources and opportunities tailored to their field of study. In addition, many of the assignments and projects in these sections are tied to the cohort theme.

Other U301 Cohorts

This cohort is designed to welcome and help transition new transfer students and learn about the CSUN Black college experience. Through interactive discussions, learner-centered activities, and campus partner visits, transfer students will explore their personal strengths, interests, and sense of belonging within the CSUN community. Students will also take part in a comprehensive plan to prepare for post-graduation. Moreover, they will gain essential skills in seeking help when needed, setting realistic goals, and accessing information resources necessary for lifelong learning. With a focus on preparing individual health and well-being, students will also engage with issues that impact the Black community currently and in CSUN’s history. While appreciating the representation of the African diaspora, students will gain a deeper understanding of their own identities and the collective experiences of Black students on campus. This course embodies the intersection of personal growth, academic excellence, and cultural awareness, preparing students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
