Become a Mentor or Tutor

Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos is currently recruiting Peer Mentors and Tutors for the Fall 2019 semester in the areas of Business, Accounting, Marketing, Graphic Design, Animation, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Nursing! 


Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Activity Director, mentors and tutors will assist, guide, and motivate new CSUN transfer students in an effort to increase completion rates. Through a unique approach to mentorship and tutoring, Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos Mentors and Tutors will serve as positive examples of students who have fully embraced CSUN and its campus culture and have successfully navigated through their CSUN coursework and towards degree completion.

 Below are the qualifications and skills necessary for each position:

Peer Mentor Position

Tutor Position

  • MUST have attended CSUN for at least a year
  • Be a full-time student
  • Have a 3.0 overall GPA
  • MUST be able to tutor upper division major core courses 
  • Have 3.2 Major GPA
  • Have a passing grade of "B" or higher in course(s) tutored
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Have a passion for helping students succeed
  • Possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Possess adequate knowledge of campus resources
  • Be easily adaptable and flexible with scheduling 
  • Have a passion for motivating students to succeed in their coursework
  • Possess excellent study skills/strategies
  • Be easily adaptable and flexible with scheduling


 Mentors and Tutors will be hired within a range of $14-16/hour, depending on experience.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application with supplemental essay questions
  • Copy of most recent resume
  • Copy of most recent unofficial transcipts
  • Two references (for Tutors, it must be a written or phone call by a CSUN faculty or staff member)
