Ranjit A. Philip Biography

Ron Philip is the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), appointed by President Erika D. Beck in May 2022 following his service as Interim CIO beginning in 2020.
With over 25 years of progressive IT leadership at CSUN, Ron leads a division of more than 130 professionals delivering secure, accessible, and innovative technology services that support the university’s academic mission and operational excellence —while championing digital equity, academic innovation, and institutional resilience.
Recognized for his collaborative and inclusive leadership style, Ron has spearheaded transformative initiatives including CSUN’s pivot to virtual learning, the modernization of classroom technology, the launch and evolution of a campus-wide cloud strategy, and the implementation of digital equity programs for underserved students. A passionate advocate for accessibility and student success, he has led multimillion-dollar emergency aid technology efforts and advanced inclusive hiring practices in IT. His strategic vision continues to shape CSUN’s digital future while fostering a culture of innovation, equity, and operational excellence.
Under his leadership, CSUN's Division of Information Technology has expanded student IT employment opportunities, co-developed digital literacy programs for first-generation and underserved students, and implemented inclusive hiring practices. He serves on the President’s Cabinet, the CSU CIO Council, and the CSU Generative AI Advisory Committee, among other leadership bodies.
Originally from western India, Ron spent his early school years in Kenya before returning to India for high school and college. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic/Electrical Engineering from the University of Pune. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their two daughters.
