teratology (the study of birth defects). Doctor Machado's research
focuses on chemicals in the environment and how these chemicals interact
through common molecular pathways to produce birth defects in sensitive
subpopulations. Since sensitivity to birth defects is determined by
genetic makeup, Dr. Machado's research is primarily in the area of
gene-environment interactions. Dr. Machado
teaches EOH 456 (Industrial Toxicology) and EOH 353 (Global Perspective in
Environmental Health), among other classes.
- John Schillinger,
