Director of Research/Program Development

Qualifications

  1. Completion of Master's Degree in a field related to Human Development
  2. Completion of NAEYC Accreditation requirements for administrator
  3. Completion of licensing agency requirements for administration (CA Title XXII)
  4. Experience working with young children and families
  5. Experience supervising adults
  6. Experience with culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse populations
  7. Demonstrated competence in developmentally appropriate inclusive programs

Responsibilities

University
  1. Recommends major facility and equipment improvements to the Family & Consumer Sciences Chair
  2. Outreach to departments for participation and/or observation experiences
  3. Oversight on university students' observation and field experiences
  4. Reviews/recommends appropriate research to CSUN Human Subject Committee
Outside Agencies
  1. Maintains appropriate standards for various agencies, including NAEYC Accreditation, DPSS state licensing, fire and sanitation standards
  2. Makes applications and renewals as mandated
  3. Meets with agency officials and complies with inspection recommendations
Staff Supervision
  1. Coordinates interviews, hiring, termination of staff/faculty in consultation with Family & Consumer Sciences Chair
  2. Approves hiring of student assistant interns
  3. Meets with staff/faculty to oversee curriculum planning and performance
  4. Assists Site Supervisor in orientation of student assistant interns
Finances
  1. Prepares projected budgets for Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Sessions
  2. Reviews actual annual budgetary expenditures (in progress)
  3. Approves all purchases
  4. Coordinates projects with Health & Human Development Director
Other
  1. Represents Child & Family Studies Center at various on/off campus functions
  2. Maintains networking with other early childhood/family studies professionals
  3. Other duties as assigned by Family & Consumer Sciences Chair

Site Supervisor/Assistant Director

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Human Development, and related Master's Degree completed, or in progress
  2. Completion of NAEYC Accreditation requirements for administrator
  3. Completion of licensing agency requirements for administration (CA Title XXII)
  4. Experience working with young children and families
  5. Experience supervising adults
  6. Experience with culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse populations
  7. Demonstrated competence in developmentally appropriate inclusive programs

Responsibilities

University
  1. Filing minor PPM maintenance requests
  2. Coordinates university students orientation and field training
  3. Coordinates dietetic interns participation at the Child & Family Studies Center with faculty supervisor
Outside Agencies
  1. Insures daily compliance with inspection recommendations
  2. Insures that monthly emergency drills are held in each classroom
Child & Family Studies Center Programs
  1. Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day functioning of all programs
  2. Oversees enrollment of children
  3. Addresses various concerns as they arise with parents, teachers, students, etc.
  4. Liaison with Parent Booster Club activities and fundraisers
Staff Supervision
  1. Interviews and recommends student assistant interns for hiring
  2. Maintains appropriate teacher/child ratio in classrooms
  3. Arranges for substitute staff
  4. Conducts weekly or bimonthly staff meetings, as needed
  5. Assists Director of Research in orientation of student assistant interns
Other
  1. Maintains networking with other early childhood/family studies professionals
  2. Other duties as assigned by Director/Program Coordinator and Family & Consumer Sciences Chair

Lead Teacher - Preschool

Qualifications

  1. Completion or progress toward a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
  2. Completion of NAEYC Accreditation requirements for teacher
  3. Completion of licensing agency requirements for teacher (CA Title XXII)
  4. Experience working with children in an inclusion setting
  5. Experience working with culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse populations
  6. Demonstrated competence in implementing developmentally appropriate practices in an early childhood education classroom

Responsibilities

Classroom
  1. Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate, inclusive preschool program that is consistent with NAEYC accreditation guidelines
  2. Supervise and insure the safety and well being of the children at all times; remain alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group
  3. Keep classroom, storage rooms, bathrooms, and yard clean, orderly, and inviting
  4. Complete developmental assessments on each child at least twice, annually
  5. Conduct individual conferences with parents of each child at least twice, annually
  6. Write monthly classroom correspondence for Parent Newsletter
University
  1. Supervise and evaluate university fieldwork students, and conduct daily staff training meetings
  2. Incorporate university student projects into curriculum
  3. Train assigned student assistant(s) utilizing a team approach
Staff
  1. Coordinate activities with staff from the CHIME Institute
  2. Participate in weekly professional staff meetings
  3. Keep Administrative Director informed of program
  4. Report any special needs or concerns to Administrative Director

Student Assistant Teacher

Qualifications

  1. Completion or progress towards a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
  2. Completion of NAEYC Accreditation requirements for assistant teacher
  3. Completion of licensing agency requirements for assistant teacher (CA Title XXII)
  4. Experience working in a developmentally appropriate early childhood program preferred

Responsibilities

Classroom
  1. Assist Lead Teacher in developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate inclusive early childhood program consistent with NAEYC guidelines
  2. Supervise and insure the safety and well being of the children at all times; remain alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group
  3. Keep classroom, storage room, bathrooms, and yard clean, orderly, and inviting
Training
  1. In teaching teams, devise a method of increasing assistant responsibilities over the course of the semester to include:
    1. planning and implementing curriculum, including small group activities
    2. leading whole group activities
Written Assignments
  1. Developmental assessments on individual children (Fall Initial Assessment, Spring Final Assessment)
  2. Parent conference summaries on individual families (one at each mid-semester)
  3. Curriculum activity plans as determined by Lead Teacher
Meetings
  1. Daily staff training meetings
  2. Weekly professional school staff meetings as determined by Lead Teacher
Other
  1. Be familiar with and follow CFSC policies contained in the Student Training Manual
  2. May assume temporary responsibilities of teacher in Lead Teacher's absence
  3. Infant & Child CPR training and First Aid for those considering long term employment as a sign of professional promise
