I was trying to send this as a mass mail to all my three classes; but somehow it got bounced back. Before IT solve my problem, I’m posting it on the class web so all three classes can see it.
Dear IS 312 students,
I found instances of cheating in my grading of Excel homework 2: some students copied formulas from other students.
Although I stated in my syllabus and made known to all my three classes on Day 1 that cheating would not be tolerated and would be punished, although I specially gave reminder/warning right after Excel HW1, it happened again. Some people just couldn't get my message, and they just thought they could escape the notice of the instructor and won't get caught.
But they are wrong. Their improper acts are identified, and they will be penalized.
The reason I'm sending this email?
1. To give those involved a second chance: while I would give a zero credit for the Excel HW 2 to all involved people, and even up to a "F" grade for this course, if they email me and admit their wrong doing, I can consider lesser penalty.
2. Although my TR class have not submitted their Excel HW 2, this email serves as a reminder and second warning that copying formulas can be and will be identified and penalized. So stay away from even attempting that.
3. The Excel project is on your hand now. This email should help to prevent any similar incidents from happening to the Excel project.
Thank you for attention.
