Instructions for Putting
mIRC on a Disk
For those of you who might not always be at your home or office
computer during a IRC session might be interested in creating
a portable mIRC disk. This
will run from the A: drive
of any PC computer. The only down side is that mIRC
tends to run slower from disk than when installed on a computer
and run from the hard drive.
Downloading to the Hard drive
To create a disk with the necessary files to run mIRC:
Instructions:
- download
a copy of mIRC57disk.exe
to the computer hard drive.
If you need help doing this, consult my downloading
tutorial
- Remember the name of the directory you have downloaded this
file to.
- Using Windows Explorer, go to the directory you have
downloaded the mirc57disk.exe
file to.
- Double click on mIRC57disk.exe
to start the extraction of the files for the program.
- This will begin the extraction process and allow you to create
a portable mIRC disk.
- Click on Next.
- When the next window opens it will ask you for the Destination
Directory.
- The default will be C:\TEMP. Click on Browse.
When the Browse Folder opens, select the disk drive.
- To select the A: drive
click on it in the box, then OK and the next window will
appear:
- Click on Next and the following window will open:
- When the extraction is complete the following window will
open:
- Using Windows Explorer you can check the A: disk and you will see the following:
- To run mIRC from a disk,
simply put this disk you just created and labeled in any
PC A: drive. Using Windows
Explorer, select the program mirc32.exe,
as shown above, and double click on it. The program will take
longer to load and open but it will work exactly like the one
on your hard drive.
If You Downloaded to a Disk
If you download it to a disk you need to copy it to a
hard drive to extract the files to a disk.
To copy to your drive:
- Insert the disk with mIRC57disk.exe
into your A: drive.
- Using Windows Explorer select the program mirc57disk.exe
from the A: drive:
- Highlight the file mirc57disk.exe
by clicking once on it.
- With the right button of your mouse, click once and a menu
will drop down:
- Select Copy and then open Windows Explorer locate
the C:\Temp directory, highlight
it
- With the right button of your mouse, click once and a menu
will drop down.
- Paste mIRC57disk.exe
into this subdirectory.
- When you have successfully completed this process follow
the directions from #3 above to begin the extraction process
and allow you to create a portable mIRC disk
You will now have a portable mIRC
disk.
