ORGANIZATION

The Design Chapter of the Southern California Section of the American Ceramic Society was established as a non-profit organization in 1945. While the ACS Parent Organizationdeals with technical issues, the Design Chapter is an organization of over 300 potters, sculptors, teachers, students and ceramic designers who seek to share and increase their knowledge and expand public awareness and appreciation of the many facets of clay. Many of its members have regional, national, and international reputations. Past presidents include such prominent artists as Susan Peterson, Vivika Heino , Raul Coronel, Frank Matranga, and Bill Davis.

ACTIVITIES

• Publication of a monthly newsletter, which lists exhibits and events, buy, sell, and trade announcements, and registration forms for workshops.
  
• Organization of group shows and auctions
  
• Workshops featuring well-known potters
  
• Annual Catalina pit-firing weekend

• Scholarship Awards to promising ceramic students in the Southern California region
  
• A Slide Library - Hundreds of photos from past shows, workshops and lectures which are excellent teaching aids.
  
• Sponsorship of ACS T-shirts, cookbooks (with food and glaze recipes), and even a video production (Paul Soldner's "Thoughts on Creativity", now distributed by Laguna Clay Co.).
