This summer the valley stations of the subway opened and that led me to explore downtown L.A. Even though I've lived in L.A. most of my life, going downtown was like being a tourist in a different city. These pictures were taken over the course of the whole summer (2000). Who say that no one's riding the subway! On this week day (around 9:30) there wasn't a parking space to be found. |

This was also the summer of the Democratic National Convention (DNC)--and there was quite a big police presences. I tried to walk through the Biltmore Hotel to take a look at the inside but was stopped by them--though I have to say that they were pretty polite about it. |

The only incident I saw during the DNC--not that I was looking too hard. |

Two shots inside Bradbury Building--built in the late 1800's. An amazing building designed by George Wyman, who was a junior draftsman at the time. |

Built in 1917 the Grand Central Market is still very busy. |

Many of the businesses near the convention center boarded their windows up during the DNC. |

Inside the Pantry--a famous restaurant that has been open 24 hours a day since it was built in 1922. Located near the convention center. |
