Assignment #3 - Scaling

When you have completed these questions please email the answers, as an attachment, to the professor at his email address

Using the job satisfaction survey data downloadable here, perform a Guttman Scaling Analysis according to the following steps:

1. Collapse the "agree" and "strongly agree" categories into one and "disagree" and "strongly disagree" into another, randomly assigning the "neutral" answers.

2. Rank the respondents on the rows in terms of the highest to lowest number of agrees

3. Sort the questions across the columns by highest to lowest proportion of agrees.

4. Calculate the Minimal marginal Resproducibility by finding the average modal response.

5. Establish cutting points so as to maximize the number of agrees above the line and maximize the number of disagrees below the line. Then calculate the Coefficient of Reproducibility by finding the proportion of errors and substracting that proportion from one.

6. Take the difference between 5 and 4. This is the percent improvement.

7. Find the Coefficient of Scalability by dividing the percent improvement by (1- the MMR).

Have you decided to keep all the questions, per Likert, and do they create a scale, according to Guttman technique.?
