Some have reported a problem with accessing the on-line discussion groups in WebCT. I checked with the office of on-line instruction and they were having no reported 'system problems' so the issue probably rests with access issues from your particular computer terminal. They asked if students had already tried access prior to the discussion time and of course the answer was "yes" per instructions given in class. Below are some suggestions which you should pursue.
The first suggestion was that either browser incompatability or Java incompatability were probably the issue. Please check the link below
http://www.csun.edu/~webteach/WebCT/StudentAddCourse/StudentInstructions.html If your computer needs to use a different browser or install a different version of Java there are instructions on how to accomplish that at the above link. Hopefully this will help. After you have done this please login to WebCT again to see if you were able to access the chat screen. We will discuss alternatives in class on Thursday if there are still problems.

Reminder about dialogue times for class on February 19. We are going to being doing the live chat with WebCT. Make sure you visit the chat room at some random time prior to your scheduled arrival to make sure you understand the system.
Groups A-D will begin discussion promptly at 12:30. Go to your specific chat room based on the Letter of your discussion group. The first discussion will take 15 minutes, the second one will be 15 minutes and then you will wind everything up by 35 minutes and clear the room at 1:05 cuz the next group will be entering to use the chatroom.
Groups E,F,G,H will begin at 1:10 and do 15 minutes for dialogue topic one; 15 minutes for dialogue #2 and then be done at 1:45.
The next dialogue time (March 25) we will use a different format - so stay tuned.

Reminder: the service learning assignment is due next Thursday - so be reading the material and thinking - and checking with potential sites - remember to move outside of your comfort zone.
Also - a sample student Issues paper has been posted at the assignment page to give you an idea of how one student organized a quality paper.
I believe all the bad links have now been repaired at the class web site - in case anyone was frustrated with that.
