Guide to Student Success

RTM 300 Recreation and Community Development

Seven Steps to Success

1. Pay Attention!   Notice when things are due.  Read the book or do other work as assigned.

2. There is a lot of reading in this class - more perhaps than you are accustomed to doing so start early and don't get behind.

3. Set up your service learning assignment early and complete it before it's a crisis.  The journal and project can be done before the published due date.

4. Be honest and don't plagiarize - writing must come from your personal brain and all ideas or information that are not your own must be referenced.  Turn-it-in is a anti-plagiarism program and papers submitted by students will randomly be forwarded to that system.  Students are encouraged to submit the paper directly to Turn-it-in so that the student will see the evaluation before submission.  APA format is the intended reference format.  If you are not familiar with the system you can always buy the APA book or check out an on-line summary like this one

5.Take a risk at learning something new about yourself, the pursuit of community development and youth development and how your piece of recreation contributes to those ends.

6.  Have fun.
