RTM 151C Winter Mountaineering
Welcome to the RTM 151C . . . the land of snow and cold! In the words of John Muir, "in the midst of such beauty, who could help but be a mountaineer?"
The course works hard at keeping warm and enjoying this magical outdoor environment called winter. The class will benefit not only the mountain climber but the skier, snowboarder, or snowmobiler - anyone who wants to venture out into the winter wonderland.
This web page is your location for initial information for the course. Generic syllabi and course introductory material can be found here. Lecture notes, field trip information, and other class information can be accessed through the canvas site (canvas.csun.edu) as the semester gets close - for those enrolled in the class.
The course will be a combination of online modules and a single day of field trip. The field trip will be a day trip (February 19 - Friday - all day) to the local mountains. Because of the Covid concerns we will not be spending our traditional weekend in the snow sleeping in snow caves. (But we will build some snow caves on the day trip). We will cover our traditional field skills like avalanche assessement, self-arrest, snow shoeing, etc. Sign up today.
Contact the instructor if you have questions (alan.wright@csun.edu) or need a permission number.
The syllabus for the class and the Canvas site will provide details on class meeting times and field trip details. First class meeting is January 30th at 9:00 am on Zoom.
There are single field trip.
If you have any questions please check the Canvas course page first for the information, followed by asking a question during classroom, and then drop me an email for your question still remains. (alan.wright @csun.edu)
I will have regularly scheduled office hours as posted on the website and other times by appointment.
