Requirement #2—A 1500 MINIMUM (MORE IS OK) WORD TERM PAPER (15%)
á
A 1500 word
term paper will typically be approximately 5 pages long, double-spaced. More than 1500 words is, of course,
acceptable but not expected nor necessary. LESS than 1500 words will definitely put your instructor into the Pre Natal Position for hours if not days! You must have a minimum of ONE REFERENCE at the end of the paper. This reference must be a book, a chapter in a book, or a published article. It can NOT, however, be from the class Text, or an URL from the Internet!
á
The
term paper can be submitted to the instructor by cutting and pasting it into an
email message. It can also be
included as an attachment to the same email message as a back-up measure. The
email address is: (ehall@csun.edu).
á
There
are four choices for the term paper (each equivalent in weight). Choose just
one of the following:
o
1.
A report on the theories or perspectives of an authority
in the profession (e.g., Chomsky or Vygotsky etc.), or...
o
2.
A report on another text in language development (e.g., what were
the most important things you learned from it?), or...
o
3.
A report on a topic related to language. (e.g., family structure
and language development; or differences in 2nd versus 1st language
acquisition...or...
o
4.
Five Mini Reports: each approximately two pages obtained from any
professional journal articles. (see, for example, psychological abstracts for a
list of possible journals); One report will be from each of the following 5
topic headings:
¤
Transduction
and/or perception
¤
Symbolism
and/or Cognition
¤
Memory
¤
Imagery
¤

all Class Requirements.
á
The
Term Papers will be graded on the following bases:
o
Relevance of
the topic selected (20%)
o
Complexity
of the topic selected (10%)
o
Thoroughness
of the discussion (40%)
o
Writing
skills speling, {just kidding}--spelling, grammar, transition &
organization) (30%).
á
The Due Date: You can submit this assignment at any time up to the end of the
Semester. Everything is due by the
date of the final exam (not that we have a final exam) as posted in the
Semester Schedule of Courses. The
due date is also noted in the class Survival Information provided to all
students at the beginning of the Semester.
á
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ASSIGNMENT MUST BE COMPLETED TO MEET THE 2000
WORD WRITING REQUIREMENT SET BY THE UNIVERSITY FOR THIS CLASS. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN A SIGNIFICANT DROP IN THE
FINAL COURSE GRADE!
Please submit the paper by
cutting and pasting it directly into the email message. You should also include
it as an attachment to same email message just to be safe.
