This is a photomicrograph of the Salem diorite (black portion adjacent to granite in Fig. 4b), showing some hornblende crystals (dark brown to black) being replaced by quartz (center, white) in a sieve texture while other hornblende crystals still remain unreplaced. Microcline (gray, grid twinning) has also been introduced here, but is absent farther into the diorite.
