1. Shallow

a. volcanic neck 79

b. sill = concordant sheet 85

c. dike = discordant sheet 60

 

2. Deep - called plutonic rocks 85

a. pluton - generic term - any irregular intrusive body

b. stock - small pluton; <100 km2 exposure

c. batholith - large pluton (>100 km2 exposure) or composite (numerous plutons). Ex: Sierra Nevada Batholith.
