Kerkrade, Netherlands 1945-1945 & 2006
During 2006 the Winter of 1944-1945, my father was stationed at Kerkrade, Netherlands, on the Dutch/German border. The G.I.s were housed in a monestery and were located just a short distance from the Siegfried Line. In October of 2006 we visited the Netherlands (see photos) and, with the help of a local geography teacher, were able to locate the sites Dad photographed during his stay. The American Cemetery near Kerkrade has a map showing the location of Aachen, the major German city just over the border from Kerkrade. Dad was stationed at Kerkrade during the Battle of the Bulge which was in the Ardennes, just to the south of Aachen. See some of Dad's other WWII photos here.
