Tom and Sukhi Newberry went home to be with the Lord last Saturday when
a truck crossed the median and collided with their car. An article
from the Salinas newspaper is attached.
There will be a service for them at 10:30 AM at Valley Presbyterian Church
this Friday, April 23.
We encourage you to share this information with others. Please pray
for Renee and Alberto, the Newberry’s extended family, and our
church family who are all deeply affected by this great loss.

Reckless driving blamed for 101 fatals
Four people killed over weekend

Reckless driving is behind two unrelated accidents along Highway 101 that claimed
the lives of four people this weekend and destroyed a home in Gonzales, the
California Highway Patrol said Sunday.
" The public needs to be attentive to road conditions while driving," said
CHP Sgt. Ray Faulk.
Around 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Salinas residents Jose Cabanillas, 27, and Erasmo
Maldonado, 27, were driving southbound on Highway 101 three miles north of
Gonzales, the CHP said.
The men were riding in a 1982 Chevrolet flatbed pickup truck with a trailer
in tow, Faulk said. While the truck may have been traveling at around the 65
mph speed limit, witnesses told the CHP traffic was slow and the truck braked
suddenly, causing the trailer to whip the truck through the center median and
into the northbound lanes Highway 101, where it collided head-on with a 2004
Lexus sedan driven by Thomas and Suk Hi Newberry of Simi Valley, Faulk said.
The Newberrys, Cabanillas and Maldonado died at the scene, Faulk said. A third
vehicle, a van, collided with the back of the Lexus. The one man in it, whose
name was not released, was taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, but
was not seriously injured, Faulk said.
