ALEGEBRA-SOLVING TWO-STEP EQUATIONS-321A

Rule 1:  You can add or subtract the same number from both sides of
         an equation and the equation will still be equal.
Rule 2:  You can multiply or divide the same number from both sides of
         an equation and the equation will still be equal.
Note:    The objective is to get the unknown ( x ) on one side of the
         equation by its self so you can solve for it.
                 
Example:  3a  -6  = -18
                                              
STEP 1.  Add 6 to both sides            STEP 2. Simplify
          3a  -6  +6 = -18 +6                3a     =  -12
STEP 3.  Divide both sides by 3         STEP 4. Simplify
          3a      -12                         a     =  -4
         ---   =  ---
          3         3
STEP 5.  Check equation.
          3 X-4 -6  = -18
           -12  -6  = -18    or      -18  = -18
