If you had a $100 balance in your bank account and added $200, you would
have a total of $300.  The Algebraic Expression of this event
would be:  Let x = the $100 balance
           Let y = the $200 you added to your account
           let c = the new balance $300
           then x+y =c or x + y describes the event.
Example 2:

If you had 10 baseball trading cards and you sold 3, your balance
would be 7.  The Algebraic Expression of this event would be:
           Let x = the number of trading cards you had
           Let y = the number of trading cards you sold
           then x-y describes the event.
Example 3:

If you bought 100 trading cards for $5.00, what is the cost of
each trading card.  The Algebraic Expression of this event is:
          Let x = the total cost of the trading cards
          Let y = the number of trading cards
          then x/y describes the cost of each or one trading card.
Example 4:

If you bought 16 stamps at 32 cents each, What would the total
cost would be?  The Algebraic Expression of this event is:
          Let x = the number of stanps purchased
          Let y = the cost per stamp
          then x*y describes the total cost of the stamps.
