ALEGEBRA-SOLVING EQUATIONS BY multiplication and division-130A

Rule:  You can multiply or divide the same number from both sides of
       an equation and the equation will still be equal.

Note:  The objective is to get the unknown ( x ) on one side of the
       equation by its self.
                  Example 1                     Example 2
                                                a
                   2x = -8                     ---  = -5
                                               -3 
STEP 1.  Divide by a number                 Multiply by a number .        
                 2x     -8
                ---   = ---                     a X -3  
                 2       2                      ------ =  -5 X -3
STEP 2.  Simplify.                                -3
                 x    = -4                       a      =  +15

STEP 3.  Check equation.
                -4 X 2 = -8                    15/-3  = -5
