Chapters 1-5, 7, 8, 10, 13 (9 and 11 time permitting)

Course Coverage:

  • The Heat Eq and the Wave Eq in 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D
  • The Method of Separation of Variables
  • Fourier Theory
  • Sturm-Liouville Theory
  • Laplace Transforms
  • Green's Functions and BVPs
  • ___________________________________________________________________

    Grading (with the tentative coverage of each exams):

  • Exam 1: 20%
  • Exam 2: 20%
  • Quizzes: 30%
  • Final Exam (comprehensive): 30%
  • +/- grading system will be used

    Remarks:

  • To pass this class (letter grade D) your total course score (computed according to the above percentages) must be at least 50.
  • There are absolutely no make up exams or quizzes.
  • If you are unable to take a test or a quiz due to an emergency situation, after providing the appropriate documentation you can make up the missed assignment.
  • All exams will be closed books and closed notes. You may only use your calculators.
  • All exams and quizzes will be based on the assigned homework problems, examples in your lecture notes, and the suggested problems for each section. Hence the importance and the significance of thouroughly completing your homework can NOT be over emphasized.
  • There will be absolutely no makeup final exams. Make sure that you don't have any conflicts with the time and the day of the final exam for this class.
