A few optional sections will be omitted, and Chapters 19 and 21 will be covered if time allows. ___________________________________________________________________ Course Coverage: This class consists of four parts. Part I: Data Analysis Part II: Data Production and Experiments Part III: Probability Theory Part IV: Statistical Inference ___________________________________________________________________ Grading (with tentative content of exams): Exam 1 (chapters 1 through 6) 15% Exam 2 (chapters 8, 9, 10, 12, 13) 20% Exam 3 (chapters 11, 14, 15, 18) 20% Homework 5% Groupwork 5% Class Project (due on 5/8/08) 10% Final Exam (comprehensive) 25% +/- grading system will be used __________________________________________________________________ Resources: 1. Videotape resources for math 140. 2. Math Lab Tutoring (lacated in SB400). ___________________________________________________________________ Remarks: 1. To pass this class (letter grade D) your total course score (computed according to the above percentages) must be at least 50. 2. No late homeworks will be accepted, and you have to be in class for the groupworks. 3. There are no make up exams or groupworks. In case of an emergency make sure to contact me as soon as possible to make appropriate arrangements for late homeworks, groupworks, and exams. 4. For this class you need a calculator with "linear regression" capability (or sometimes called two-variable stat capability). 5. All exams will be closed books and closed notes. You may only use your calculators. 6. There will be absolutely no makeup final exams.
