Introduction

I have been profoundly deaf since birth. Even though, as a Deaf person, I cannot understand how I lived without the technology I have today, I grew up with only limited technology access. In the past, I had a big, heavy teletypewriter (tty) to communicate with my family and friends, closed captioning for a few television networks, and subtitles for foriegn films. Throughout the years of technlogy changing, I learned to use a portable pager (now a Blackberry), video relay, electronic mail, text and video logs and much more. I realize these technologies are so reliable and useful for the Deaf community and myself.

Educational Philosophy

There are many ways to utilize innovative ideas and accommodate the needs of students to use technology in the classroom. Educational technology is very important for visual learners and especially for the Deaf. The technlogy today opens a whole new world to us. We depend on it so much that is a part of our culture. Also, it has benefits for students to solve visual problems, to motiviate them with hands-on activitiies, and to experience integrating technologies and subjects in meaningful ways. Educational technology is the future of Deaf Education, if not everyone else's.
