Course Description

“Organization, implementation, and administration of marching band programs. Training of the band, percussion section, and the color guard” (from the CSUN Undergraduate/Graduate Catalog, 2006–2008). The purpose of this course is to prepare the student to teach and administer marching band as a curricular or extracurricular course in the public schools; it is, therefore, taught and learned from the music educators’ perspective. You will study past trends and current directions of the school marching band in the United States. The student will become aware of the history, philosophy, and educational value of the marching band.
