Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated is a vary popular website for fans. The TV network CNN combined with the sports magazine Sports Illustrated have created a monster. This sports news network keeps you informed with articles and global news. It has visuals, sports columns, scores, but it doesn't offer any highlights, which in my opinion is a very big down side for this website. Competing with rest of the sites, it tends be less effective for sports fans who are interested in quick scores and highlights. However, its a good site for sports analysts, who like to give fans details about their favorite team or players. It is also a very good site for fantasy players, which allows fans to become a part of the team and manage it. SI is one of the most famous site for the swimsuit issues, this year 18 year old tennis sensation Maria Sharapova participated in it. They have also created a site for kids, named SI Kids. This site has many games for the youngsters related to sports. Sports Illustrated is also a very good site for high school athletes, it covers wide range of high school sports and is a very good source for young high school athletes to get popular.
This SI site is very interactive. It has many pictures and latest headlines are updated very quickly. As we can see from their website, instead of having the latest sports headlines, it has a vary interesting topic. This shows us that Sports Illustrated site is not that interactive and a bit less appealing to fans. However, the best feature I found to be on the site was the links to news on popular sports of America at the national and college level. On moving the mouse to one of the sports e.g. NBA results in a drop down menu which shows headlines of updated NBA news and a link a to the official site of NBA. It also offers informative links about the sport which could help somebody who does not follow sports on TV e.g. team names, team standings, team player, player performance and even a subheading named injury.
Another downside of this site is that it does not offer wide variety of sports. Most of the sports informed are mostly played in the United States. It would be a good feature for Sports Illustrated to add sports from other parts of the world, which will definitely enhance the interest of sports fans in their site.
All in all Sports Illustrated is a very good site for fans who like to know every single detail about their team and players. The site is user friendly and gives you detail about the sport you are most interested in.
