Minor in Human Sexuality

California State University, Northridge through the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences offers a Minor program in Human Sexuality. The interdisciplinary program examines the physiological and psychosocial dynamics of human sexuality, the values and ethical problems involved in human expression, the literature, and a comparison of human and other mammalian species. A number of courses relate directly to careers in counseling and in the fields of sex education and research. The program also serves professionals who wish to augment their present knowledge and skills in the area of human sexuality.

CAREERS

The specialized career training is provided to assist students in preparing for careers in counseling, teaching, health services, and scholarly research in the area of human sexuality. The program is not intended to provide a major in the field of human sexuality, but rather a specialization as a minor to enhance the major chosen by the student. It also is designed for those going into graduate programs in the clinical, health, and educational fields. Other majors, such as sociology with a option such as criminal justice, may choose to minor in human sexuality to provide a better understanding of those areas of criminal justice in which sexuality is a factor. Similar concerns are found in fields such as journalism and the performing arts.
