Interactions
- Announce your presence & who you are in a normal tone of voice
- When you are leaving, say so
- Offer assistance in filling out forms; be prepared to read aloud written information
- Do not speak more loudly when conversing
- Do not stop talking when a blind person is approaching- They rely on your voice for orientation
- Use descriptive words for directions: straight, forward, left
- Avoid vague terms such as "over there"
- Use "see" or "look" when speaking
- When walking, let the person take your arm from behind just above the elbow
* Provide visual cues and obstacles
- Introduce others in a room by name & location
- Dog guides are working animals: NEVER pet or touch without permission
