About Melanie & Carla:
Melanie C. Klein, MA, CMT is a sociologist at CSUN and Santa Monica College. Her areas of interest include media studies,
consumer culture, gender, race and class. Melanie has been a yogi for ten
years, studied holistic healing, and is the recent founder of the Awareness
Coalition. She integrates these seemingly divergent backgrounds by exploring
dominant consciousness, the role of culture and the subsequent effects on the
process of self-awareness, self-actualization, and the place for community.
Carla Davenport has been involved in theatre arts for fourteen years.
She attended Circle in the Square Theatre Conservatory in New York while performing live on the New York stage. In 2002, she met and worked with the pioneer
of the expressive movement, Anna Halprin, and discovered the healing potential
of the expressive arts. She has integrated her background in movement with her
study and work in mind/body healing therapies.
